Metering RHI Phase 2
The metering requirements for domestic installations have not yet been defined
The government has not yet decided whether domestic installations will need to be fully metered (as for non-domestic systems), or whether it will be permitted to 'deem' the heat output.
Metering and deeming
The original proposals suggested that it might be excessively onerous to install heat meters even in very small systems. It therefore proposed that estimating or 'deeming' the heat output could be acceptable. The government has not decided whether or not it will stick to this approach.
For larger systems it is expected that heat metering will be required as for the non-domestic systems in Phase 1.
I have (or am now installing) a domestic system - what should I do?
Our advice is to stick with your supplier's standard approach for the time being:
- If they normally fit an eligible heat meter, that's fine
- If they don't, then leave this out
You have to be aware, though, that to qualify for the RHI, you may find yourself needing to fit a meter later, or to reconfigure the one you have. It will all depend on the requirements when they are eventually defined.
