Feed In Tariffs

The information site for the forthcoming guaranteed payments for renewable heat

How the Renewable Heat Incentive works

The Renewable Heat Incentive will be paid for heat generated from eligible renewable systems

Payment of Tariffs under the Renewable Heat Incentive

The Renewable Heat Incentive pays the installation owner for the renewable heat generated provided that they meet certain eligibility criteria.

The tariff payments will be calculated by multiplying the proposed tariff per kWh (see the tariff levels table) by the amount of heat output of the system. This must be measured (or estimated) as described in our page on metering.

When does it come into effect?

The RHI is being introduced in two phases.

Phase 1 for non-residential systems starts sometime in 2011 we hope.

Residential systems become eligible in Phase 2 in 2012, though may be able to claim a one-off payment before then.

How does it interface with other schemes?

There are restrictions on eligibility for the RHI for systems that receive incentives of grants under other schemes as described here.

Otherwise the RHI does not affect the treatment of renewable heat under voluntary schemes and programmes like the CRC, zero carbon buildings.
